Nkangala is one of three district municipalities in Mpumalanga. It borders Gauteng in the west and is home to the towns of Middelburg and eMalahleni (Witbank). Nkangala is rich in minerals and resources and is known for its coal mines, power stations and agriculture.
Sekhukhune is one of five district municipalities in Limpopo. It is located approximately 300km north of Johannesburg, and has its seat in the small town of Groblersdal. Most of the population live in the numerous scattered rural villages and economic infrastructure is limited. According to the 2011 Census, children make up 43% of the population.
Ugu is one of ten district municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal. Ugu means 'coast' in isiZulu and refers to the district's 112km long coastline running south of Durban. There are several well-established coastal towns such as Port Shepstone that are popular tourist destinations. Tourism and agriculture are key sectors of the economy. The district extends to rural areas inland, many of which are under the leadership of the 42 tribal authorities.
Located in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, uMgungundlovu is the second largest municipality in the province after Ethekwini. It is home to Pietermaritzburg, which is both the capital city and the legislative capital of KwaZulu-Natal. The district has a number of other large towns such as Mooi River and Camperdown, and is also an important industrial, timber, dairy and agricultural hub.
